65 Fleetside, I run a GM HEI in my 250. I set it for a total advance of 38 - 38 degrees and with my particular HEI it ends up around 12 degrees initial. I have an older head on the engine that uses the long reach plugs. I run R44XLS and gap them at .045". The first HEI's from GM used to spec a big gap of around .080" but that was short lived and then they called for .045".
The R44 is colder than the R46 and the HEI should fire either one fine but unless you are fine tuning a race motor the factory spec heat range plug, but resistor type, will work just great.
