It turns out that I had the Rockers in the correct sequence after all and that the sequence in the factory manual for 1955 Chev 235 I purchased was incorrect.Checking Chevrolet Service News I came across , in Vol.28,#5,May,1956 the Rocker Arm sequence for a 235 "Powerglide Engine" (my engine) was incorrect in the 1955 Service Manual!
That means there are a lot of reprinted manuals offered,such as on EBay , that can lead a beginner like me right down the garden path. The lesson for me is to read more about my Chevy, talk to people in the know, and above all be an "INLINER"!Thanks
