Hi all, for the last 2 months I've been noticing a color difference on the dipstick when I turn the engine off. This is a new rebuilt 250 in my truck, the truck is not really road ready yet, but I've driven it occaslonally The short block was aready assembled when I got it,all i did was finish up with the assemble and paint it. Are these motors know for having a head gasket problem. I would'n think that whoever did the shortblock didn't mill the head or ? Thanks for the suggestions.

You'd be surprised. Have you noticed any oil in the coolant, hotter temperature?

I haven't noticed any.It doesn't use much if any water. Just wondering if I should pressure test the system. Would that help? I really like to not have to change the head gasket, but willing to if need be.

Your best bet is to pressure test the cooling system. That way you know for sure. Also, has the engine oil been changed since engine break in? John

Yes, the oil was changed just the other day.I was hoping that maybe because I started it quite a few times trying to get the perfect timing that it is because of the condensation had accumulated.Could that make sense.

Condensation is possible, but your head gasket may be leaking. Try re-torquing it when hot. Start from the center & work outward or follow the 'tightening sequence' shown in Shop Manuals. Good luck.
