Inliners International Forums General Discussion Truck Talk steering column question?

Hi, I just bought a 49 chevy 1/2 ton and have discovered the steering column is not fastened to the bottom of the dashboard. Is there supposed to be a spacer in there or is it just a flattened u-bolt with a rubber cushion?
