Phoenix trans in TX sells a neat adapter for the carb linkage for proper hookup of the T V cable. Makes it easy to do. Probably not available for just any carb but I got one for my Edelbrock. Worth a call to find out.

You can use either a 153 or 168 tooth early style 265-350 small block flexplate Depending on your crankshaft, you may need to drill the holes out to 1/2" and/or add two additional dowel holes. I do not remember the converter pattern, but if you get an aftermarket flex plate with the dual pattern convertor holes you will be fine.
Bow-Tie Overdrives has an easy to use set up for the TV cable (TV-EZ??) but I believe they only have them for 4 barrels.

Hey fellow Canuck! I did the same thing to my 65 C10 292...700R4 from a 92 305 truck. The starter and flexplate bolted on direct.I think I used new flexplate bolts from the dealer. The linkage for the tv cable was another story! It MUST work smoothly and travel very close to the specified distance between idle and wide open throttle. I am using the original carb and a homemade linkage given to me on an old intake from EFI-DIY (this site or Chevy-Talk) in Calgary. When the weather clears I can take a better look at mine to give you a decent description. At this point my shift points are a little high, but close enough to drive from Calgary to N.S. with a full load on board. Tom

So, If I'm using the 700R4 and the TBI from the same '89 305 donor truck I can use the flex plate. torque converter, starter. and TV cable with an extension? Tom

Beater and guy's, The flex plate will not fit from any SBC with a newer design 1 piece rear seal. It will have to be from a 85 or older V8.
I have used the 168 tooth ring gear on multiple applications. Use a starter from later model engine , such as a 99' with a 350. They had a small high tq starter. lots of clearance with them. Tom

Will the 700R4 Converter bolt to the flex plates used on a 292?
