Hello all, I have a 53 Chevy with a 292/350 tranny, an Offy intake with an Edelbrock 4barrel on it, headers and dual exhaust with an h pipe. I was wondering what should be my next investment (ie: cam or anything else) to add to this set up. Don't wanna go all out, it's kinda a daily driver, but just wanna shut the guys that preach 350 engine up. I'm very happy with this engine just want a bit more "umph". Thanks in advance.

You'll never shut up the 350 cult. If you can out run some of them they will make excuses and call someone you can not beat. They have 50 more cubic inches and the after market on their side. But you can gain some respect from some of them. Mostly they will think you are their cute little brother and they will tell their friends, 'This is my friend chopperwolf he just runs a 6." The next step would be head work to the level of performance you want and the appropriate cam for your modifications and the driving you really do. You can't have it all but you can demand respect.

Chopper A mild blow through turbo set up (keep the boost under 8 psi) can add ~40% power increase. Careful tuning and use of a MSD 6BTM or equivelent to pull timing out under boost will allow you to run stock internals. The key here is not to let the engine knock. A water methanol injection kit can also help. Now if you really wanted to kick some 350 butt there is a way to do so. A stock internals 4200 with a turbo can make 500 RWHP. Not a quick fix but it'll put a smile on your face.. and send the 350 crowd a runnin' Here is a link to a '52 chevy getting the swap done.. adding4200 power I have a 51 GMC that started out with a built 292 - made about 200HP and drank gas like a sailor on leave at a bar.. it took a quick exit after 1 year..

I think that is the same as what I was using in a 292 project that has never been finished. Mine is from an '81 301 Firebird. Mine was going to use GM TBI from an '89 GMC 305. PICTURES

Yep, it's the same.
The 1978-80ish Buick Regal turbo V-6 turbo set-ups are similar but a bit smaller. 231 CI engine. If you can find one, I think this would be an easy way to turbo charge a stock engine. Just keep the boost down & do not detonate while boosting. Should be fine.

TJ, Are you asking about chopperwolf's build? I'd like to know too. Mine is sill sitting in the shed.

I think like many projects, they start off with the best ambitions you can have then fall off quickly as life and other distractions enter into the mix. That's what has happened to all of mine so far.

I don't know about that. Your ambitions have supplied me with an engine stand adaptor. an aluminum fuel block, a good book, and lots of fun.

Yeah, I tend to forget about the successes more than the stalled projects. I'm glad i've provided some fun also. Thanks for reminding me of them.
