There's a car, I believe its 49-52(could be a year less or more)Chevy Deluxe 4 door with a straight 6 and a 3 speed manual tranny. Its really rusty and going to the scrap metal yard on monday so I need to figure if I want the motor and tranny in it. The head has a casting number of 3835909. I have a number for the block but it was dark and I have checked and I know I am way off. The numbers I thought they are were 3895812. I checked and nothing fits. please I need urgent help before monday.

Also the engine and trans if free so I think I'll get it anyways but I hoping it would be a 235. Another piece of info is it only has two bolts for the valve covers so I wasn't sure if that meant for sure it was a 216.

The head is from a 235 1950 or 1951. I can't find that block number in any of my sources. You need to get in with a flashlight - maybe a white crayon would help.

If it ain't broke...break it.

Yea I'll try tomorrow but I was wondering since it only has the two bolt valve covers I didn't know those came in the 235. I'm happy that the head if off a 235 becuase it motor I think hasn't been changed so I hope the block is also a 235 but I'll print off the list of casting numbers and check tomorrow.

Just reading over the casting #'s here the numbers I got were 3895812 but I'm thinking its most likely 3835692 whch is a 235 from 50-52. That seems to fit the year of the head those number could easily be like a 6 instead of the 8 and 9 instead of 1.

I need help once again. I just got the motor and checked the casting number and it is 3835814. I went through the casting #s page and found nothing. I know its either a 216 or 235 and I would think someone here knows what it would be. Here's some pictures.

It looks like a 235" engine (short sideplate) with the wide belt pully. That would make it 1950 'or so' engine like the head.

With the picture out of focus, I can't be sure.

I'm with you John. That's definitely a 235
push rod/lifter cover plate. And with that style of valve cover it's between 1950-54. But I haven't been able to locate those #'s either to be sure.
