I'm new to the forum but here's my 2 cents worth. I have 4 vehicles with 292 engines. They go from completely stock to all out drag race. The 2 in the middle are a '50 Chevy pickup with propane pistons, rv cam, headers, and 4 bbl and a '56 Chevy 2 door sedan with flat top pistons, 600 lift Crower cam, Sissell lump port head, headers and 4 bbl. On both those engines I'm running a 600 Edlebrock carburetor. The pickup is a daily driver and the '56 is a street/strip car. I'm sure that the carburetor isn't optimum in either application and they are certainly set up differently but in both vehicle they seem to perform well. The pickup has 4.11 gears and a 5 speed. Drivability is good and it gives us 15-18 mpg. The '56 also seems to have decent drivability and performance, no idea on the mileage but it has deep gears and will run mid 13's at 100 mph in the 1/4. FWIW
