I never see anyone mention a windage plate or tray anywhere. Are they not used on a L6? I thought an engine is an engine, and what helps one type (V8) will help other types (L6). Is it they are no made for our favorite engine?

I don't see why one couldn't make one but I don't know how useful it would be on an L6 engine due to the lower RPM's most see.

That's one of those mods that you take it on faith there is an increase to be had from doing it. For the few HP that you actually gain, and then lose back thru the parasitic drag of the drivetrain. The cost of fabbing the tray and buying the special long windage tray studs and hardware, it is probably most peoples opinion that it simply isn't worth it unless you are building a racing engine.

A company in Florida makes them.
I bought one & Larry got one free for bringing a short block to them for mocking up one.

Here they are.

Back in the stone ages my company contracted with a supplier who also owns several Nascar teams to evaluate the effect of a windage tray in Mustang GT V8. We only dyno tested to 5500 rpm or so with back-to-back dyno pulls with and without the windage tray. There was no difference in the power.
Now, we don't drive dynamometers. Our cars corner, brake, and accelerate. MAYBE there is something to be said for controlling oil slosh in the pans with a tray, Dunno.

I think your best effort on the street should be a pan as deep as you can make it, with baffles or trap doors to keep the oil near the pickup.

Either that or drive like an old lady. And who wants to do that?

I use Moroso # 22912 directional screen rather than a tray, if you spray a power washer on a tray it just bounces back at you but with the screen it just sucks the liquid under the screen and disappears no splash.

Picture of my setup in Leo's book page 43

As a side note unlike the picture move the pickup to the very rear of the sump.
