I have a 228 oil pump on the shelf and a project 261 I am thinking about doing. So I got to wondering if a guy could easily rebuild the 228 oil pump and use it in a 261.

any thoughts?

GMC pumps used to be used in Stovebolt's back in the day because they supposedly produced more pressure. As long as it fits into the block register and isn't loose and the pickup tube has the right height off of the pan floor, i'd say you'd be ok to use it.
