Greetings . . .

I wanted to share a cool site that I found a while back when researching the original use of the Carter WCD on the Nash Statesman.

The engineers at Nash definitely marched to the beat of different drummer. Their 'trough plate' intake plenum is quite unique:

the design is said provide good mixture distribution.

Apparently the base models came with a one-barrel Carter. It was the Power-Pak option that utilized the two-barrel Carter.

The site is as cool as the project. The owner has fitted and experimented with two different Weber models.

Have you found any materials that guide you through the rebuild of this engine? I have torn the engine down, and have the machining complete. I have the vehicle manual, but it doesn’t seem to walk you through the assembly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi JMG . . . I am a Chevy guy so I can't offer much on Nash/AMC docs.

Have you looked into Chilton's for the vehicle era? In my experience they typically cover rebuild considerations fairly well.

hello -- i'm the fool that does the http://195.6ohv.com site on the rambler six... i've been an inliners (forum) member for 10 years or so but stopped checking in for a while when the site was changing... but looks like it's back and so am i.

i've made a lot of changes to the site in May 2019. still running the engine built by Pete Fleming, and pushing it harder than any engine i've had.

most of the work has been endurance improvements. (don't matter how fast it is if it's not running). quality machine work was #1, but #2 was mainly oiling and cooling.

just today i picked up the flathead version of this same engine -- same displacement, just valve in block. (nearly all parts interchange. the OHV was a "quick upgrade" to get a few model years out of the old Nashcan six 'til the new AMC could get the new engine shipped.) it's an economy version of the Nash "Flying Scot" (lol). might be getting a 58 American with flathead and auto as the fun slow car.

the "fast" 195.6 OHV is currently in my roadster. 5 speed behind it, super mods to the suspension, it handles very nicely for what it is.

if ytou haven't found it yet, check out theamcforum.com. lots of good folk there and the inline six section is lively. fair amount of 195.6 activity there.

Glad to see you're back... I had fun working with the 1965, 195.5 in my Willys pickup.... But, the unstoppable oil from the valve cover made me finally move up to a Jeep 258... Other than the oil mess, the Rambler engine was a jewel... Low end like a little diesel and it would pull pretty hard up to 3,500 rpm with the Elgin regrind cam and milled cylinder head... Again, your posts on this little six were excellent...
