I'm starting a project and have bought a decent, non rusty 53 chev car frame and suspension, where is it's number so I'll be able to register it when complete? Has anyone swapped some form of disk brakes on these? These have the same suspension as the early vets does so there has to be lots of effort to make the brakes better by the road racers.

Hi Roar . . .

The VIN number is located on the body - not the frame:
The Old Car Manual Project

What sort of body are you going to be using?

I do not expect this to apply to your '53...however the vin on my '38 Stude is on a plaque riveted to the front side of the frame. When I was refinishing the frame I found the vin number also plainly stamped on the bottom drivers side of the frame about halfway back. Nice to know there is a more permanent vin than an easily removed plaque.

PS...my brother had a '62 vette which he told me was the last vette to have the same front suspension as the '53. When he bought the 'vette he also got a spare '53 front suspension to go with it.
