Hey guys Ive been chasing some brake/booster issues on my truck. I was wondering if anyone knows how much vacuum Tom's 292 cam should pull at the intake manifold port for the booster. Don't want to go buy a guage if I know thats no the problem. Motor is lumped, 40 over, balanced, Clifford intake, etc.etc.

How much idle spark do you have?

Which cam? I offer a few. Most of them offer decent vacuum at idle.
A vac gauge is a cheap tool.

If the cam is hot enough that idle vacuum is low (despite best ignition setting) an easy partial fix is a vacuum storage tank, simply an empty air-tight can connected between the manifold and booster with a check valve. No sizes, no adjustments, just hook it up. The can re-charges to highest vacuum available whenever the engine supplies it (cruising, trailing throttle). It allows several power-assisted low effort stops (instead of just one) in traffic. I used the Chrysler slant 6 can many times, the Summit/Jeg's is $$. I've seen them made from all sorts of containers (2 quart tomato juice) that will hold vacuum and can have 2 fittings securely attached. The bigger the better but mount it close to the manifold using the same hose size as the booster.

Sorry Tom I can't remember which cam I bought. In fact it was probably 6 years ago. If I remember corectly I think you were only offering 1 at the time for a 292. i would have to go ack and look through my paper work.
I'm not even sure my problem is low vacuum. I have a good pedal until I start the engine. Then my pedal goes sloppy. I would think if I didn't have enough vacuum my pedal would stay firm.
Oh, What is idle spark?????? do you mean timming?????

In my experience it is quite common for a vacuum booster brake system to have the pedal feel a bit soft after engine startup..that is, think, an indication the booster is working.
