Been having more and more requests for roller cams for these engines. So stepping up and will be offering them soon. Will offer a few standard shelf grinds to keep costs down.
They will come as a kit, Roller cam and hydraulic lifters. The lifters will use crossbars. The blocks will need to be modified to accept the lifters. So best to do on a engine when rebuilding so as to be able to keep iron dust out of the engine.

Block will need a simple modification. The bolt boss's for the side covers will need machined down approximately .050. This can be done with a ebay bought counterbore.

Cost will be right at 900 ish.

Blackwater- Whats a 153/181?

153/181 is the four cylinder version of the 250/292 six cylinder. I finally found a repairable roller cam for mine and had it reground to use hydraulic rollers. Took some research, but I finally got what I was looking for. I still have another one of these little beasties that could be rebuilt and a good street hydraulic roller setup would be great!!

Glad you found a cam to use. Just teasing you on the 153/181. I like them too.

Will the cam require the use of a bronze distributor gear?

Yes a bronze gear will need to be used. But there is another option. 216 and 235 engines used steel distributor gears in what I believe 1936-1953 to match their steel cams. This gear will interchange and be compatible with steel roller cams.

The cams are in stock and are works of ART. They can be viewed here.

You can say that again. Almost a shame to bolt them into an engine never to be seen again. Worthy of a cut-away display in the 12bolt museum of speed.

Why? I was under the impression that these have relatively short lifespans - so they are useful only in race engines that get torn down and rebuilt regularly.

That's great to know about the steel gears. Who did you use for a core? What brand of lifters did you end up with?

I use made in USA Topline Johnson hydraulic roller lifters.
The gears are steel to match the cam for wear. The cams are also made in USA.
Can get about any possible grind you want made.

One of the only places we could find a core and be able to grind it was Crower. We are using Morel hydraulic roller lifters.
