Our'40 Chevy sedan with a 261 six has been sitting for a couple of years now. The clutch had stuck so I just removed the trans, a fully synchronized 3 speed, clutch, and flywheel. Tomorrow I plan to take the flywheel for resurfacing and pick up a new clutch kit. Hopefully we can drive it again in a few days.

Great! Good luck with it. It is good to have them on the road.

Got the flywheel, clutch, & trans back in. Now installing a new water pump. I've been using one of the adapters that uses a '54 water pump on the '62 261 engine. After I install a new battery we should be good to go.

After the clutch and water pump I remembered that the starter hadn't been working as well as I like. I removed it and found the foot starter switch badly "burned". I replaced it after checking the brushes and found they looked good. A points cleaning or replacement is next.

I drove the '40 for the first time. The 261 runs strong but it has a stumble on acceleration. I'm going to try a different carb that I have.
The new clutch works great.

As it is fun to plan and work on a project car. It is more exciting to drive them.
