About 50 years ago I ordered, from JC Whitney, a cam for my 235. They advertised it as being for a '54 Corvette. I have since determined that the specs are the same as a 261, I think. I ran it briefly and took it back out. Then it was misplaced until a few days ago. I found one that must be it. The numbers on it appear to be 3836483, possibly 3838483, hard to tell about the 4th digit. I can still see a dab of red and a dab of green paint on it. Can anyone tell me if this is it? Thanks.

Well tom c you're smack dab in the middle of a transition time at Chevrolet. '53/'54 is the beginning of the transition away from forged steel to cast iron camshafts (evidenced by the width of the dizzy drive gear). That and the cam journal size will identify the bump stick. The part number (not a casting number) you reference is for a cast iron large journal cam. Here's a link to the parts wiki at the Heritage site: Chevrolet Parts & Accessories Catalog P&A 30 March 1957
