Hello I have a 700R4 out of a chev C1500 P/U bolted to my 250 six. I run a four barrel and I bought a LoKar cable for the TV. Adjusted it as recomended works perfectly. You also have to Wire it so that the convertor will lock up or it will over heat and be ruined TCI and several other suppliers make kits to do this with out a computer. This is the forth car I have installed either a 700R4 or a 2004R in and all have been very dependable with a 1 to 3 mile to the gallon increase in mileage, which helps at todays prices. When you couple a 2400 RPM stall convertor to the 3.07 low gear in a 700R4 with a good six cyl torque you can mess with a lot of minds. Big Bill

Just did a 700r4 swap on my AMC six last spring.Very happy with the end results.I used a transmission adapter plate from www.advanceadapters.com that was designed to allow the use of a GM TH350,TH400,or 700R to an AMC straight 6 or V-8 engine. It is a kit with a 5/8" adapter plate, nuts and bolts hardware, crank bushing and spacers. Also a new flexplate is needed.Advance Adapters has many styles of kits for trans swaps.

Walt I like the 700R4 best if it is the late model with 30 spline convertor, but for the average street machine I don't think it makes a lot of difference (200 4r usually cheaper to buy). A few years ago everyone said the 200 was junk but now we know better the biggest thing is getting them properly wired and the TV cable adjusted right. If you drive either and they aren't acting right you have done something wrong go back to square one and check all wiring and adjustments including where you hooked the TV cable to the carb make sure to have the proper amount of travel, just look at a stock V8 and measure the distance from throttle shaft center to tv cable attachment point and make sure you have the same measurement if you are running a four barrel. If running some other carb setup make sure the atttachment point allows for the same total travel as a stock system has. Big Bill

ChevyII The vette and camaro with 350 are better than the rest. The vette tranny in particular, however, any 89 and up 700R4 can be upgraded to be equal or better than anything that GM put out. It does take a bit of reading and work. Sonax and Superior make part to upgrade these units. The superior super servo for 2nd and 4th really help these units live. For a daily driver a 0.471" boost valve is a good choice. For a hot-rod type application the 0.500" boost valve is best, this along with a good valve body shift kit really wakes these transmission up. I bought most of my parts from these folks - very easy to deal with and they will answer questions. Just try and do a little home work before you call. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/highperf700r4.htm

ChevyII,I used a stock GM TV cable and made my own bracket out of aluminum to hold the TV and throttle cables. The bracket has a square hole in it to allow the cable snap clips to hold it in place. The bracket is mounted to the intake manifold below the carb. The cable has a tab that you press to allow the cable to move in or out to adjust it.Measure a cable on a stock GM unit and mount the cable in the same place on your model. Also another item to note is the trans fill tube.I used a stock tube and hand bent a curve in it to match the firewall.Fab your own parts to keep the cost down if you can.If you have the TV cable in the wrong spot you will know right away, when you drive the car the trans will not shift correct.I also drove a pick up with a 700r4 for a while to get the feel of how the trans will shift. The cable issue was easy for my model as it had a Torqueflite trans in it that uses line pressure to shift it.You could adjust the shift point/line pressure on the side of the carb by the length of the lever. The cable was easy, small and compact. The old trans had a mess of levers, arms, springs etc to deal with.It is hard to get used to the four speed with overdrive after all of those years with a three speed.2100 RPM on the highway at 60 mph with a gear. Bill.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the info.
Do you have any pictures of your setup for the tv cable and fill tube. I'd be really interested in checking them out - it would also be a great help.
Thanks.

I found a 700r4 attached to a 3.4 v6. This is what I have been told about it: the motor has a bad bottom end but the trans should be good. i have the torque converter, the trans is out of a 84 firebird, the motor is out of a 99 camaro. $100 0b0 thougths?
