Inliners International Forums General Discussion Engines 292 Length

Just measured a 292 equiped with air conditioning and power steering. The length from the rear of the block to the front of the vibration damper is 32 1/2" + - 1/8". Haven't picked up the engine yet, so I haven't checked the casting date. The engine has the early style HEI and a separate intake manifold, so I assume that it is probably a 1974, as I think the HEI was an option that year. I'm going to put this in a '56 3100, so If anybody has done this swap, please let me know. I will be using Langdon's engine mounts with a Chassis Eng. crossmember.

keep us posted on how the install goes. i am eager to see what mods have to be done to get it to fit in the engine bay.

I'm back in the Army, so I haven't gotten much done. It looks like the radiator needs to move to the outside of the radiator mount. This will require a notch in the panel that holds the hood latch. The radiator may have to be lowered to clear the hood brace, or the brace may need to be modified. AS soon as I get out I will start working on the truck again, and will let you all know how it works out. I don't forsee any insurmountable problems
