I'm running a stock pump on a 250 chevy with the 5/16 lines and the $^*&%$#!!! lines keep kinking _with_ the use of a bending tool. The problem seems to be in trying to get a neat 90 deg. bend into the tube (bending as far as the tool allows will result in about a 100 deg. bend).

I want the engine to look neat, so just running a lot of rubber is out. A braided stainless covered hose would be my alternate now with some fab'd brackets to keep it neat and away from manifolds, etc. The problem with this alternative is that all I can seem to find is AN parts that don't tell me if it's compatible with 5/16 fittings (I want the -mostly- stock appearance).

Dear Warren;

The 5/16" steel should bend okay.

Try squirting a lot of WD-40 on the tool anvils and tubing first. Keep it wet while tighting it slowly.

If that doesn't work use copper. It's strong enough and looks nice as well.

3/8" would be okay too.

Good luck. \:\)

John and Larry are right on their advice. I actually used the sand method once( a plumber
clued me in)on copper tubing. And I think bending slowly is the key. Try to get an Earl's Supply catalog for your AN fittings.

If you want to use stainless braided line, but do not want to deal with AN fittings, Summit and probably many local speed shops carry the Spectre line of hose. You can use regular hose clamps or the fancy imitation AN type clamps with it.

i just did it on my 250, if you go real slow with a little practice you should be able to bend pretty much anything you need, i went between the water outlet and the valve cover, fit pretty nicely.
