Thought I'd share this little bit of info in case it's of use to someone else.

I'm putting a 292 in a '40 Chev coupe and needed to find a thermostat housing with the hose coming straight up from the thermostat, as opposed to the usual 90 degree, horizontal outlet. Thanks to a sympathetic counter man at my local UAP NAPA store, I've found an early '80's Cad part that has the typical GM flange and bolt pattern, 1 1/2" hose, and the required straight up exit. Good for early cars with tall rads and not much room between the head and the rad. It's cast iron, NAPA part number is W2493.

Thanks for the info. Cast iron might not be as flashy as the chromed ones made in China but they will last forever instead of 3 or 4 years and the hose will stay on better.
