Just something that I'm curious over. On the drivers side rear of my 250 block there are two tappings. I'm assuming they have never had bolts in them nor have ever held anything there. The years have deteriorated the internal threads ,which I think were once 3/8 NC.Any ideas on what they were cast in the blocks for? Errr I'd post a pic to illustrate this but ???? I don't see how.

I think you are talking about where your clutch linkage pivot ball would go?

No , the clutch "Z"shaft pivot ball is the 1/2 UNC tapping that is real close to the back of the block. These tappings (2 of em) are ahead of the pivot ball tapping, at about the same height on the block.

If they are the ones I think they are then they are for a stamped steel bracket that also held a clutch x-shaft pivot ball. Different chassis had different clutch linkage set ups and not all used the hole at the bellhousing flange to directly mount the pivot ball.
