Hi all new to this forum from Amman, Jordan, any way... \:\) , I own a 2 WD Chevy truck, stock 292 engine with Rochester monojet carb, my friend keep telling me to swap to V8, I’m a Inline 6 fan. I like to keep the engine but it is heavy on street, I like more power; with low as possible fuel consumption.
what I’m thinking off is to go for a bigger carburetor; to do that I need to change the intake manifold and install Headers, I’m confusing about how big carburetor should I go (CFM)?, any another setup that apply to my need would be a great help?

If you want LOW FUEL consumption Why in the world do you want to install a bigger carb?? Step up the cam to a RV/Towing cam, Dual exhaust. A webber/holley 2b Like what Tom Langdon sells.Or a small 2b 350 CFMs. Just to change to a Bigger Carb and Dual exhaust Won't help your MPGs. A 292 was ment as a work Horse Not really built for MPGs
The Dual exhaust In stock trim would do you more good Then Just a bigger carb.

Welcome Chevy-80,

It is very nice to have international people here. I find it real interesting how a Chevy made to Amman.

I think that there is a lot you can do to get better perfomance and better gas mpg.

I the US we have smog laws and cannot leaglly remove smog devices. If your truck is an American 1980 the it has smog smog control devices that can be hurting you, mpg and power.

The cataylitic converter can restrict exhaust. There are also ignition timing retardation devices that can be a problem.

Like Twisted said just a carb alone won't help.

Dual exhaust without cat converter is good, with headers is better, with long tube headers better yet.

To increase mpg unrestrict intake and exhaust and play with ignition timing.

There are many improvements that can help, but we need to know how far you want to go.

Welcome

Luis

Thank all, what in the Pic. Bellow is what I got on my truck now; I believe there is a lot work to do, especially with the carburetor, what I think the more power you got the lower fuel consumption on a normal drive you will have
That is why I was thinking to go with a bigger carburetor.
This time let us not give a concern about Fuel \:D
What to change what to replace?

Dear C-80;

I would search for a small 4 bbl Carb with small primaries. When driving normaly these are about the same as the the 1bbl. Only is extra fuel used when the secondary valves open

Following the advice of Larry & Luis is a correct method and you can change the intake manifold when you add the headers.

Good luck. \:\)
