Are these hard to find?, have any of you built your own brackets?, someone has a design or pics by any chance, is getting hot here in Sonora, close to Arizona state and i want to install my air conditioning.

Thanks

Walt;
That's an interesting looking bracket. I, too, have an HEI distributor and was wondering how it would fit. Have you tried the bracket?

Try this older thread.
The main part of the bracket is 1/4" thick and bolts to the two front bolts on the side if the head. A 1/8" x 1" bar extends back to the bottom bolt behind plug #2. A second 1/8" bar is welded to the top of the bracket. It goes above #1 plug and below #2 plug at a 45 degree and then welded to the lower bar. A 9/16 round bar is drilled and tapped on both ends and welded to the top of the bracket about even with the middle of the valve cover height. This is the inside pivot point for the pump.
The adjustable part of the bracket is part of the VW Jetta bracket, which is where the pump came from.

I bought a set of universal mounting plates from Vintage Air for my Sanden 508 compressor then made a plate that bolts to the right side of head in three places, it is L shaped and it sets high enough to clear the ign. This works well on an older car but would probably hit the hood on sixty & up cars.

Been there, Done that, Hope to live long enough to do it again.

I just received my A/C system from Hot Rod Air and the brackets themselves were OK, but homemade looking. The Compressor bracket totally blocked the Heater hose outlet coming from the thermostat housing but I got an elbow hose to cure that. The main problem is that the compressor bracket is a solid mount, no adjustment, they use two idler pulleys to get you around the water pump pulley and one of them provides the adjustment. I had already gotten the 3rd pulley over the water pump so I could be as factory as possible but with their system I had to use the idler pulley. Supposedly... I was missing one bushing so I had to ditch one pulley which was fine, and the pulley for the adjustment was waay off when I used their bracket, and when I went without the belt lined up but hit the power steering. A very frustrating night. Luckily, my 250 came with an aftermarket compressor bracket that looks very homemade too, but at least it allows the belt tension to be done at the compressor so I can ignore those idler pulleys. That will be tomorrow too \:\( Thank you for the Old Air link, I like the look of that bracket! $85 for a bracket means I am going to have to try and get a refund for the brackets from hot rod to help pay for that, but that is a sweet bracket, we'll see...

Here are some pictures of the late 60's early 70's style brackets. I got mine off of ebay, you could try there but they are fairly scarce for this style.

I ended up using the home made bracket that came with my 250, here's a pic of it, it is using the universal adjusters welded to metal plates. You will notice that in the mid 70's they added the two bolts at the bottom of the block. My 75 Nova 250 that I just pulled out had them, and the 72 Truck block does not have the holes in the block. I guess the engineers might have had some problems and added it for additional support. I hope I am fine since I can't bolt up the lower support now. I was thinking about adding an additional section behind it similar to the old air bracket for more stability.
