So far I have gathered information here and there and I think my list is getting close to what I need. Here is what I have listed as to what I need so far:

Nova 250 setup w/ turbo-

Turbo Manifold
Garret t3 Turbo (GN Turbo T Type)
Distributor
overhaul kit

200r4 Trans or 700r4
forged pistons
air cleaner/filter
ngk spark plugs

water pump

radiator

shocks/springs
brakes (rotors)

thrush muffler & pipe
engine paint por15

I am still up in the air as to which company to buy certain parts from (Accel or MSD Distributor, oem or aluminum radiator from Jegs, etc). Also, If anyone has a good connection with any of these parts I would appreciate that info as well (The junkyards around here are [kissimmee,fl] full of imports).

Definitely open to suggestions too.

For the water pump Autozone can get a short 250 aluminum high flow pump. Don't run a high volume oil pump either as it will chew up the dist. and cam gear. And on the por15 paint if you go the chevy orange the color is not matched very well. Mine came out as looking creamey instead of bright orange, and definitly spray that stuff. The can says you can brush it but it doesn't work very well. As for the turbo stuff I haven't played with that yet.

ive sent a couple pm's to twisted 6, i was just wondering what sort of brands are good price-performance ratio. i'm not doing drag or anything but i want to have the speed there when called upon.

There are often several suppliers for the same product and you must "go shopping". Sometimes you can buy from the Mfg.

There on e-bay all the time too. It all depends on what you trying to accomplish etc.

A 292" .060 over & a T-5, or the VORTEC will "do the trick".

yeah, i have just have a terrible past of buying a product not brand name and it didn't work out. but at the same time i don't want expensive edelbrock stuff because i don't need high powered stuff. i keep on doing research i just wanted to see what kind of input i could get. i also don't have time to research all the forums so it may seem like i am repeating what other people have said, i don't mean too i just cant sort through every thread

There are NO 'short & fast' answers to ANY of this. It takes years of experience to gain/accomplish & even then things can go wrong.

Perhaps a course at your Jr. College whould give you more insight.

thanks for being honest, lol. i guess it has mostly to do with my income level i have no room for error so maybe this idea isn't such a good one.

Sure it is!!

It just takes a lot of planning, which is what your doing.

An 'engine swap' gets you the most for for your money. Then you add the gadgets & cosmetics.

Start looking for an old truck (1966) with a 292, it will contain most of your needed parts. \:\)

Another good place is hitting up Swap meets & car shows that have even a small swap meet/Used parts area.Even Race tracks are a good area to go looking for L6 parts( intakes Headers??? carbs)
and what ever other goodies sometimes.

Well i still like the idea but personal reasons are coming into play so i guess i'll have some blueprints but no idea when to begin. in the meantime it gives me time to read, watch, learn

Yes they made an SP2P intake manifold for better torque & mileage. IIRC?

Also, if you plan on using a GN turbo,that's fine but you are limited to that style 3 bolt flange.

I would suggest buying a SPA turbo manifold from Tlowe hear on the BB & use a T3 4 bolt flange or T4 flange, that way you will have more selection on turbos.

I pm'ed him and it seems like i missed out on the first wave so i have to wait to get some spare money. i didnt want to buy any upgrades until december and it seems like through spa i'd have to get it asap.

Ok,
just letting you know that the GN type turbos will not bolt onto the SPA manifold.
Just in-case you did not know that.

Correct the GN although a T3 has a 3 bolt turbine inlet like this.



You want a 4 bolt such as this

It is made to fit the standard T3 4 bolt turbo, the GN turbos are a T3 but have a unique 3 bolt inlet. The T4 is a much bigger inlet. As was stated in another post you can look for the turbos off of the Syclone and Typhoons as another chap alternative if your going to use the SPA manifold.

Here is the T3 and T4 gaskets for comparison.

am kinda a newbie, and not sure where to ask this question. I have a 63 C10 with a 230 in it. would like to put a 250 crank in it an bore out like 30 or 40 over. where and what spec do i need to find the pistons and rods?

Hello Bamadirt

If you swap in the 250 crank you will also need different pistons. 307 pistons can be used for a 250 motor.A .030 over bore is a good start and will leave enough to rebuild again if you ever feel the need.

That is why i am asking, best machinist around doesn't know alot about 6's. I am in south alabama, there arent a lot of machinist in the area period, and freighting off to Cali can get really expensive.

well the Block work they should be able to handle.
But when it comes to the head work, that would be
a little different story.
But if you are plaining on a turbo then get stock compression forged pistons.What about bring it to
fla. ??The shop that did my first Motor Build i ran for Over 17 yrs.and I gave them all the parts.
I had it built in 1984 and took it apart two yrs
ago for a Nice hehehe Make over.

I have no problem going to florida! I am only looking at maybe a 4-71 or 6 for the supercharger, i have a good head shop here. For the truck i have now they did real good. IF i am going to bring the engine to florida i still need to know what to bring for rods. and by stock pistons are you talking for the 250 stock or the 307 stock?
sorry if questions seem silly, still trying to get a grasp on the whole process, I like the 6's because you have to think way more ahead than a blah v8 build up

If your plains are to use a Blower Of any kind or even a turbo. The 307 pistons would not work You'd have to much compression because they are a flat top. So you'd have to use the stock 250 piston or one with a Lower compression. the stock
250 piston is 8.5-1 which can or may Limit how much boost you can run. 7-1 was or is More prefered. And it lets you run more boost.
