Does someone knows if the Chevy L4 153 piston can be replaced with the flat 4.00 inch bore 350 SBC? Just to oversize the cylinders and raise cubic inches... But I'm worried about piston pin height and rod & crank lenght... I don't know the measures and want to buy the parts before opening it and stop using the car.
Please, if anyone can, help me!
Thanks, Alex.

Here's a link to Keith Black pistons you can use as a reference to find a piston you link. You don't have to use KB pistons.

http://www.kb-silvolite.com/spistons.php?action=diam

This is their diametrical listing by bore size. Look up your 153 pistons, note bore, piston pin height, and wrist pin diameter. Then look up the bore you want with the correct height, and pin. It may not be a 350 piston you end up with could be 307, 283. You may want to pull your head off before order the pistons to see what your piston to block deck measurement is. It might be possible to change the piston pin height and get a zero deck. Hope this helps.

One other little detail on mixing pistons. In some cases when all other dimensions will work you might end up with a skirt to counterweight clearance problem. The shape of the skirt relief and the length of it under the pin should be checked too.

I still don't know the pistons measures, but I think I'll have to open it to check...
The crank to piston clearance is another thing to think about. Thanks Mike - I never thinked about it until now.
If someone can tell me before I open the engine what are the piston measurements, especially pin position and piston height, please post here.
Thanks all you guys, when I have some news I'll post here! Alex

The 153 4 cyl chevy engine uses the same compresion distance as the chevy 302 Z28 engine. The Z28 is a 4 inch bore and the 4 cyl is 3.875.That means you will have to bore to 4 inches. It is only a .125 over bore and the 4 cyl can take it.You will also have to remove the dome on the Z28 pistons.Bob

Hi.
I was told to run 3.875 pistons and 5.7 rods from Chevy 250. Will it work?

Now, take a look to manifold and carbs that are waiting on the shelf to be installed:

They are two single-barrel Solex 40 mounted in a brazilian intake. Those carbs are common here, but don't think you have it there in USA. Anyway, it's nice to know new things. \:\)

These 153 engine will run with flat top pistons, 262H Isky cam and kit (also springs, shims, etc.), Manley SS 1.94 and 1.60 valves, Crane Roller Rockers, 10:1 compression ratio, manual 3 speed 3.54 ratio rear-end, ported heads, tube headers, MSD ignition & maybe wiring and this carburation setup.
The idea is for a fast street car for my dad with original painting in bad conditions. Just to see new guys in their import small cars not knowing what was so fast. \:\)
Some pics of my dad's car:

It's a 1973 Chevy Opala with L4 153 engine and a 3-speed manual gearbox on the steering column.

Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks!
