I'm replacing my 230 for a 250 in my 1964 impala. I would like to put a 2x2 or 4 barrel on my 250. Will I have the hood clearance for either the 2x2 or 4 barrel? Can the 2x2 be set up to where the timing of the two carbs are not a on going challenge?

If your after the Looks (WOW factor) the 2x2.If your after the simpler a single 4b. As to tuning them and keeping them tuned. Personaly I never had a issue with Duals OR my 3x4 set-up

William,
Hello. I am using a Clifford dual quad manifold with adaptors and (2) two barrels on my Willys coupe. I use two Autolite non-progressive, 1.08 venturri carbs with 1:1 linkage.

I love it. It looks cool, idles nicely, gets 17 mpg and runs 13 second quarters (additional engine mods).

I also have a couple of cars with the single quad, but for a street rod with a WOW factor I prefer the dual duals. Either way I think you will be happy - just dont use too big of carbs. That's one reason I prefer the Autolite carbs. They can be had in a variety of sizes, the bolt pattern is the same as a Holley, and they are generally dirt cheap.

Good luck.

If you opt for a single 4 barrel you shouldn't have any clearance problems with the hood as long as you don't use some weird height air cleaner. Holley and Edelbrock 4 barrels are practically the same height at the air cleaner base. A little more clearance can be had by using a recessed bottom air cleaner. The filter will still be the same but the base will "droop" down over the carb and make it sit lower.

Dear William;

Dual carbs using the Holly-Weber 2bl carbs, is another way too. The 'secondarys' don't come in till your full throttle and the 'primarys' are small for mileage.

Decisions-decisions. :rolleyes:

Good luck. \:\)

Here is some flow data for the Autolite carbs. The venturi size is cast onto the main body, just behind the throttle linkage, making identification easy. Good luck.

This information comes from CJOFFROAD.COM. That website has a ton of information on these carbs.

2V 2100/2150 at 3"Hg. Venturi size listed first.

0.98 = 190 CFM
1.01 = 240 CFM
1.02 = 245 CFM
1.08 = 287 CFM
1.14 = 300 CFM
1.21 = 351 CFM
1.23 = 356 CFM
1.33 = 424 CFM

When comparing to 'metric' carburetors, remember that venturi size is not the same as bore size. For example, a Weber 32/26 has venturies of 26mm/27mm.
