I have a '59 panelvan with a 235 engine. I was sgtmike7090@yahoo.com told that the H E I dist out of a 250 engine will drop in after I change the dist drive gear. Now that I have the dist, I am told by another person that the 250 dist is just short enough that the it will not drive the oil pump. Can someone tell me which is true?? Thanks.

I believe you have to machine or grind the hold down flang off so the dist will go into the block far enough to engage the oil pump. You also need to use the 235 dist vacumn advance and hold down.

Checkout Tom Langdon's HEI for a 235 . It uses the late model vacuum advance.

I believe Buffalo Ent will modify your 250 HEI to fit the 235. Lots have done this on their own, just make drive gear and oil pump tang exactly as the original dist. I've heard the vac. advance unit from the 235 can be clamped to the new one.
