This T-5 recently gone through by local shop, is in the truck but only goes into 2nd, 4th & reverse. Any clues would be appreciated.

Did you try shifting it before it was installed?
Did you try turning tailshaft and then shifting?
Just to hazard a guess, but maybe they didn't re-assemble the "control selector arm" correctly. This is one of the parts that mounts to the top cover plate and works with the shift forks. Look at the expaned parts view in a shop manual for reference.

This trans was shifting fine after bolting it up to the bellhousing. After installing the crossmember, driveshaft etc it now doesn't go into 1st, 3rd or OD, just the gears shifting forward out of neutral. I'm running the truck on the jack stands, everything turns. I guess I could drive it to work on Monday with just 2nd, 4th and reverse.

Is it not going into those gears just when its running, or all the time?

Running or not still not going into 1,3 or 5. I shifted through the gears several times before running the motor, noting the long throw of the thing. Only thing that changed is that I bolted in the crossmember. Just downloaded and printed the manual, will go through their trouble shooting list.

Did you remember to install the roll pin that holds that "block" to the shaft rail. The block being the one that the shifter sits in?
There's also a couple of roll pins involved with mounting the shift forks to the shaft.
Do the gears grind, or ???
I fiqured this was obvious, but I'll mention it anyway, but is it just a case of the shifter hitting something, now that the crossmember is in place?

  IT'S FIXED, after swaping levers from another trany I realized the prev. owner of this one hacked up the bottom of the lever, took out the bend and rewelded the thing! When I stuck it back in I did a 180 with the lever. Thanks to Inliner Joe in Texas for making me take another look.
