Got a 62 C10 with a 235 and 4speed, and I was thinking about going to front discs. I found the swap pieces alright, but what I'm wondering is if anyone has done this using the stock master cylinder (the one that is brake and clutch in one unit)? I'm not worried about having a power booster, just would feel better cruising with front discs.

Dear Joe;

You won't need power/disc brakes unless your adding a really big camper. \:\)

Ok, cool, just thought I'd feel better that way. It's going to be a cruiser/parts runner, no trailer or heavy loads, just a fun old truck.

The original master cylinder will not work with disc as it has a residual valve and will not allow the disc brakes to release. As John said there is really no need for Power assist but a later non-power daul line master cylinder would be the way to go.Many of the "6" powered short bed Chevy trucks made 73-80 came with Dics/Drum and NO POWER assist. Maybe this will help,Paul

Dear Paul;

That won't work on his application as he has an hydrulic clutch. On those, the master is the same unit with 2 cylinders side by side.

The one your speaking of in tandem with one in front of the other. One with the residual valve (rear drum brakes)& one W/O for the disc.

A 1962 C-10 has an outstanding braking system & best left alone unless a lot of weight is added etc.
