I picked up a bone yard S10 5 speed and want the tranny gone thru before I install it in my 51 sedan. The going rate for tranny shops here in the Chicago area is $85.00/hour. One shop said 2 hours for tear down & inspection and then go from there. Does anyone know of a shop with a more reasonable rate? I could pack up and ship to a out of state shop. Any advise would be appreciated. Sherman

Dear Sherman;

Try DMELLC@charter.net

They are in W. Virginia & well worth the shipping costs. Phone # is: (606) 237-6648.

Owner's name is Dennis.

Good luck. \:\)

You might also check with some of the local vocational schools in the Chicago area that have an automotive technology shop. They usually don't charge for anything but parts, and since the kids are being graded, their work is checked by instructors who are ASE certified, and they're usually happy to have things to work on.
