I need a screen for my cast iron powerglide.

Kanter doesn't know what I am talking about. Slauson sent me to Fastco. My trnasmission guy said Fastco doesn't have one.

Does anyone know where I get parts for this old tranny?

Zeke,
You might try
www.autotrans.us/pgparts1.html they carry a lot of parts for the cast iron Powerglide. Was the
screen your problem?

According to my transmission guy it is. I found autotran on a search and emailed them already.

If this doesn't work, I need another cast iron six cylinder 'glide. The shop said they'd use all the parts out of my tranny in another core, no charge. I told them I'd be happy to pay for R&R of the box itself since in the original rebuild all I brought them was my transmission, not the whole car.

I got the impression he is a good man and doesn't want to take anymore money from me. He just wants to make me happy. We'll see.

I just don't have the cash for a modern overdrive swap. Even if I did, this car has been in my family since it was new. My uncle that gave it to me and his uncle that gave it to him pleaded with me to keep it in the family, drive it and keep it original. I am compelled to honor their wishes in return for the gift of such a fine piece of machinery.

People have told me with a complete rebuild kit
I could do the job myself since C.I. Powerglides are simple in design. But I don't know having never done any auto trans.Anybody here ever rebuild a C.I. Powerglide?

Dear Zeke;

You'll just have to keep looking. I saw one on e-bay a while back in the New York area.

We'll all 'keep an eye out' for ya.

Here's a # to try; Ken @ (918) 605-2248....

Good luck. \:\)

I have two castiron power glides. One that I took out of my 1954 car. It was slipping in the forawd gears, and reverse hardly worked. The other one was given to my room mate who moved and left me with it. If you send me picsof the parts you need, I could take the parts out. I would do it for the cost of shipping. Or if you like, I could ship one of them complete out to you. I also have the flex plate and adaptor pice that mounted it to the motor. If anyone want that let me know, or they will all go to the recycler soon.

An aluminum 'glide weighs 100 pounds (no converter), I weighed one on a shipping scale at work.

The iron ones weigh close to twice that.

John, I have a powerglide out of a 56. I have no clue if it's any good. Might be good for parts. If you want it, come and get it. Riverside is not that far away.

Thanks!!

A 1956 is 'open drive'. Gordy 250 might want it.

Thanks again. \:\)
