I was figuring out the steering in my hot rod, and seeing as though it is right hand drive, I'm having trouble running the steering past the starter motor on a 58 bellbousing.
I also have a scattershield and was wondering if its worth using that instead.
I was wondering if some-one who has a Stovebolt Engine Co T350 setup could measure how far out from the side of the block the starter motor comes out.
If the starter solenoid is closer to the block, then the stock starter, then it may be wise for me to run the V8 scattershield for the extra clearance - not to mention the added security in the event of a clutch explosion.

Early Ford pedals thru the toe board . Mechanical clutch that passes real close to the bell housing. Seeing as though its a right hand drive car - Its real tight.
I know an early bellhousing rotates the fork, but is there any way to get the starter to sit more vertically?

Mark,
What transmission are you wanting to use? Is it the starter solenoid or the starter motor that is causing the interference? I'll send a photo of my installation later today.

Hoyt I am running a 37 Packard trans, but its the stock starter solenoid that runs real close to the steering column.
I asked about the V8 trans/scattershield starter position as I thought the starter may be in a different position as compared to what I have.
thanks

Mark,
If the solenoid is causing the interferrence, throw it away and use a foot stomper.
