I am looking for a tranny adapter---to put a T-5 to my 265 Chrysler. I have contacted Wilcap--twice by E-mail and twice by phone with no response--is Pat OK there--is he sick or? Is there other companies that have what I need. Tom Langdon has something but have not reseached it yet---how about Paul Curtis, his name was mentioned, but I don`t know how to reach him----any ideas out there...........thank....52er

Try KVC Products

The transmission adapter plate to mount a T-5 transmission to an early flathead Mopar bellhousing, an adapter plug for the input shaft bearing that goes into the crankshaft in place of the original bushing. A special clutch with a 1" extension to catch more of the splines. This is the kit which he priced to me for $290.00. After the initial batch is sold the price will go up. The machine shop said that they would have to charge him more to make the parts.

Jim, I take it you have to have a stick bell for this to work plus a flywheel---mine had the fluid drive so I don`t know if this kit will work?? I would have to get a bell and flywheel. The Wilcap gives you a plate mounted on the engine to adapt a Chev bell for the T-5 and you get the flywheel and pilot puck---to many choices---just want to get this right the first time...52er

Several years ago Tom Langdon published a long article with pictures in the *12-Port News* about a T-5 conversion he made for his brother-in-law, Elmer Stange, in the family heirloom 1930s Dodge pickup. Tom should be able to offer some direct and useful guidance to getting this task done right. Larry Page has the *12-Port News* back issues available; see the "Newsletter" link from the Inliners home page.

God's Peace to you.

The trucks use a different bell housing than the cars. The car bell housing has to have the center hole enlarged to Cheverolet size then ears most be provided top and bottom to bolt the transmission to. The truck bell housing has a center hole that is to big in diameter so a spacer ring must be used to make the pilotshaft housing fit tight into the bell housing. The truck bell housing has a large flat surface on the transmissiom mounting surface and can be drilled and tapped for the T-5 transmission. With the truck all that you need to adapt a T-5 transmission is a spacer ring to locate the pilot shaft in the center of the hole then you can drill and tap the four holes to secure the transmission to the bell housing. I do not know if a pilot shaft bearing extension must be used, it does on the car bell housing as the T-5 pilot shaft is shorter than the standard car three speed pilot shaft.

Sounds like the Wilcap set up would be the best---finding all the truck stuff may be a pain and who knows the cost? I will check with Tom and see what he has to offer. Might chime in later with more....Thanks 52er

Went with the Wilcap unit ---It comes with everything I will need---appears the only issue may be the clutch fork and of course making my own rear motor mounts---the adapter should be here in two weeks. More info as the project moves along....52er

52er, I have a dodge 230 and had checked on curtis's adaptor. I did not know it would not work with the fluiddrive bellhouse. I see this is an old post. How is the wilcap adaptor. Is an adaptor truly required, or could the bellhouse be machined to fit, and rigged together?

Andy, Don Coatney has done the conversion using --I belive the fluid drive bell. He has pics of his change over.I think he has a site under his name to photos. I went with the Wilcap adapter because I feel I can do the new motor mount easier than trying to modify the old bell. Any which way you do it you won`t be sorry---the T-5 makes a big difference in how your car performs..Good Luck..52er

Don Coatney's car was a standard shift car, Plymouth did not use fluid drive and Don says in his write up that he used his original bell housing and had to mill the starter mounting face because the DeSota flywheel teeth are futher back and the starter would not engage if he hadn't.

I think I might try this myself, I will need to find a T5 anyway, and it would be a great winter project. I have my flathead torn apart, will be getting the block cleaned and the crank done, want to get the cam from edgy. Can't afford the finned head though.

Jim, sorry I though Don modified a fluid bell as he has the 251---I went with Wilcap because of the fluid drive---just easier for me---hunting down a stick bell-flywheel and related parts, going with Wilcap just made more sense...52er
