I did my research a.. well most of it and i have decided on finding an s10 tranny with the gear set with 3.76 as the first gear.

If i am right this will bolt right on to my gm 250 straight six through any chevy bell housing with out any altercations right??

So all I need is to find a tranny and gm bell housing right?

What are the tag identification codes for 1983-1987 T-5 with 3.76 as first gear ?

I answer my identification code question.

in addition to the questions. Is the identification marking on the tranny a bronze or copper tag or is it a stamping imprinted on the body.
want to know is it is a tag because that is something some one could switch change. In order to doop one at a swap

You can go to the tech page and there is a list of years and date codes. If your interested I have a S-10 tranny from a 92 with the electric speedo and has been checked out by my tranny shop and is is great shape--just needs to be resealed. It has the 3:79 first gear---$150. I went with a different tranny with the mechanical speedo.

Hello. Mechanical speedos were made until about '87.
You can ID T5s two ways: a metal tag or the paper tag with a bar code usually found on the top cover of the main body.

No- it will NOT bolt right up! You will either have to make a special adaptor plate to put between the bellhousing and the trans or cut about 1/4" off the input shaft, you'll also have to modify the splines most likely and extend them farther back to allow the clutch disk to work properly, or find a special clutch disk which may or may not be possible.
I used a V8 Camaro T-5 and it's virtually a bolt up. In fact mine was. Normally one must enlarge the 4 mounting holes to 1/2" but I had forgotten this part in my haste and it bolted up very nice and snug. Then just shorten your driveshaft and away you go! You'll have much better gearing and it's soooooooooo much easier. I know, I made the mistake of getting an S-10 trans and discovered how much of a pain they are to make work properly. It can be done- it's obviously just easier with the Camaro trans. I hope this helps.

Hi Brad. What body did you put the Camaro trans in. I have a `57 Chevy Pickup and a WC T-5 out of a Camaro. It looks to me like the shifter will be back too far..........john

i put a 235 and a t-5 in my 30 chevy.i used the bellhousing from a 50 pickup and just reamed the holes bigget for the tranny to mount to the housing.i used a clutch disk from an astro van.the input shaft i did not have to alter.it was a very easy swap.

Boogiemanz1, I used this in my '67 truck with bucket seats. If you have a bench, you'll have to swap tailshafts or fab up a shift lever that'll clear the bench. Also, check out my posts here under the same name: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=258692

Thanks Brad. At one time there was a BBC with a Muncie M-22 in this truck and the shifter location was awkward. I can get a couple of 5 speeds out of full size chevy trucks (NV 2500?) they have the bell housing cast on. Are they expensive to refurbish?........jb

That would be the NV3500. I had one in my 91 4x4 S-10 and loved it. Although I didn't really use my S-10 as a truck, the trans held up great- even with speed shifting. I wish I still had that truck! Anyway, other than that I don't know much about them.

Brad, glad you liked the trans. I had a friend that abused one unmercifully and didn't kill it. I traded a Muncie M-21 for a good NV3500 5-speed and a 5.3 liter long block that was a GM warranty. The motor has almost no miles and is at least an `05 maybe newer............jb
