I have been looking for a t5 tranny , from a mid 80's S10 , to go into my '65 C10 . I haven't had much luck finding one , but did notice an ad locally for a 1988 Isuzu 5 speed . I've been told this is the same tranny as an S10 would have . Can anyone here tell me if this is correct ? I haven't had the chance to go look at the item yet . It is a good distance to where the item is located and I'd like to know if this tranny is a match before I empty my gas tank going to look at it . I know the t5 page lists an earlier Isuzu tranny ( 1984 , I think ) . I know the later S10's also went to a different design tranny ( w/an integral b/housing )that would not work for me . This being an '88 model , would it also be an integral design ? All help is greatly appreciated !

In 1988, the S-10's were still the type you would need, that is, not intregated with the bellhousing, so there is a good chance that this is what would need. Ask the owner to check that for you. Joe

Do you care if it is an electric or mechanical speedo?

I would prefer the mechanical speedo so as to not have to go with an expensive adapter to connect the speedo . I have the t5 page with all the identifying application numbers as well as another page with the exterior dimensions as far as length , shifter location , etc. What I don't have is something with the dimensions of the face of the tranny where it connects to the bellhousing . I'm talking about bolt holes center to center , etc. .When I go to look at the Isuzu tranny , if it doesn't have a number that matches one on the t5 ID page , I would need some measurements to compare . Does anyone have such info ?

being an '88, it's most likely electric. I would suggest that you have the owner take a look and answer your questions about it or better yet take some pictures and email them to you. got an Isuzu dealership in your area? they may be able to answer some of your questions.

I don't know if you've dealt with the trans yet, you probably have, as it's been 14 days since the last post.
Ask some junkyard very nicely to look in the Hollander interchange book, and see what else that Isuzu trans directly interchanges with.

A quick way to identify whether or not the speedo is mechanical: The electrical ones will have a plug in harness while the mechanical ones will screw in. Note that the tail shafts and housings are specific and you can't swap parts to make it work.
