Hi I'v been reading your posts for a while and have some qestions. I am building a 63 chevy half ton with a 292, and have been been thinking about turbocharging it, I want no less than 500hp without EFI is this possible? what would it take?

Well...... I don't know about 500 ponies. what is that like 3 times it's naturally aspirated power rating? Could get ugly. Could be done, But I don't know.... However I have a 1981 Chevy El Camino with a OMC 165 boat motor (same as a 250 but with a touch more cam) in it running propane on 9 psi of turbo boost... the experiance is in a word exciting. From 0-15 mph is pretty slow About 20 mph the psi starts coming up abt at 5 psi it just sets you back in the seat.... and that is with 2.56 Gears Should anyone want to direct flames this way I am prepared. No flame job, but are you running pure propane or propane as boost [like nitrous]? I have heard of propane as an injected element with diesel that acts like nitrous oxide does in gasoline engines. I'm interested in a turbocharged 292 on propane to pull a '67 K/10 Suburban. It would replace a 454. I would want the system to be able to run on gasoline alternately. Am I dreaming?

Straight LPG... much higher octane, vapor fuel... to me it solved all the problems w/turbos.
Mine has not been really road tested.... I have spent the last 2 months building it, and I am just getting to the road testing phase.
I have discovered this.... 1- My engine seems to be pretty doggy on the bottom end(up to 15 mph) this may go away with more tuning. 2- When the needle on the boost gauge hits 4 psi start holding on, cause past 5.....lest just say that 20-75 happens quick 3- I like propane. The system is just so simple and foolproof. But time will tell. 4- One of two things happen when you tell someone about a project like this either; they just walk away slowly and think that you are completly mad, or they just say that you are a total moron and that will never work. My neighbor is the latter... he just shakes his head as I go by with a full on F-16 whine. More advice from the Madman to follow

Phule, Just curious as to what transmission you're running with the 2.56 rear. Standard or auto? Sounds like more gearing would help. btw: what's max rpm?

TH350 trans....Yeah gearing would help but I have to see how she runs on the road some more before I decide. I have decided that 4500 is all I want to spin it.... but it ill go alot more than that.

i say get a od standard and 4.11 rear gears. should scream off the line, and still be able to go on the highway. plus you can do a 4000 rpm drop when you want to leave the line in a hurry.
