I see there is a book available for inliners, like the inline six power manual? Does it cover any of the 235/261 stuff, or is it all 230/250/292? I don't want to plunk down the $20 if it wont help.

You can get a reprint of a performance book for the 235/261 series inline 6s by California Bill Fisher. It was written in the 1950s, and is out of print, but still readily available today. It's called "California Bill's Chevrolet, GMC & Buick Speed Manual"

I have a copy and in my opinion it's a great book - simply written with no unnecessary complex jargon for us simple types. ;\)

Dear Joe;

There were 3 of these books in the 1950s.

The one by Bill Fisher, Floyd Clymer and Frank McGurk printed one too.

I had 2 out of the 3 at one time. Hard to find nowdays.

Greetings . . .

Two of the three books mentioned by John are available in reprints. If you search on amazon.com "speed manual Bill Fisher" and then on "Roger Huntington":
California Bill\'s Speed Manual - 1954 Edition
California Bill\'s Speed Manual - 1952 Edition
Roger Huntington\'s How to HOP UP Chevrolet & GMC engines

The Huntington book was published by Floyd Clymer in '49 and then again '51. It has a lot more technical information then the California Bill book, which is more anecdotal. I find the two books compliment each other.

BTW Huntington also wrote about the 'paths to power' for the inliner's arch nemesis the flathead:
How to HOP UP Ford and Mercury engines

And I just ordered a copy of his more general book:
Souping the Stock Engine

The McGurk book does not appear to have ever been reprinted. They come by on ebay every once in a while and fetch way more then I am willing to bid!

regards,
