Can a "coil in cap" GM HEI be converted to an external coil and vice versa ?

What are the differences ?

Basically you get a cap, coil and cap to coil "plug" wire. Since most parts place do not have a clue ask for parts to fit a 75 or 76 model year 250. Main advantage I see is getting some weight off the distributor and more options for coils.

It also gives more clearance to mount a AC compressor above it.
