Hey! Can powder coat come in a can? I bought wheels and they are primered only. I want the best coating to resist the elements. They are replacement wheels for the rusty originals of which only 3 match. $35 ea. to sandblast,$240 for a set of 4 with moons from the local swap meet, so I sprung for the new ones. Now they need paint to protect them so what are your recomendations?

I saw a powder coating kit from Harbor Freight for about $100 dollars.

I don't know if I should thank you or not for that response- ha. Of course I'm hoping for something like that for a lot less moolah! I am grateful though for your quick response. This message board is terrific for info exchange.

Tim, I had 5 wheels powder coated and they had to be sand-blasted and perfectly clean. I sandblasted them myself, saving $20 a wheel. It cost me $25 a wheel to have them powder coated and I'm very happy with the results. It's MUCH tougher than any paint I've seen.

Lord, let me live long enough to do all the projects I have planned!

Tim,
I sandblasted and powder coated my wheels myself and was very pleased with the results. Was easier than I thought it would be.
I bought a used powder coater off eBay for $35 and picked up a used oven from Craig's List for $15 (I should have checked the "Free" listings). I found the correct color powder at www.powderbuythepound.com
