I have a 265 from a three ton truck, and it has a big honkin' dampner. Would one from a 251 fit,and work properly? Thanks.

You can switch to the smaller diameter 251 damper without any problems. Some 251's didn't even use dampers. I am running the larger diameter damper on my 265. As a matter of fact, I spent over a year looking for the larger damper and then had to send it to Damper Dudes to be rebuilt. I'd like to see a photo of your dampers to compare with mine.

A problem I have with the larger damper is that the stock fan and pulley cause the blades to hit the larger damper. From what I can tell, the larger damper was used on 265's that ran the dual carb and exhaust setup. Some of those 265's also used the sodium filled valves.

I have in fact a 265 with the dual carb/dual exhaust, and was hoping to swap down to a smaller balancer. The engine will be going into a '51 Fargo panel in the near future. I am also hoping to be able to adapt an A-833 OD unit also.
Jim R...T120 is not a reference to the Bonny, well,in my case anyway.Gotta love them old Trumpets!

I am in the process on installing a 251 CI long block flat 6 into a 1948 Plymouth. In order to squeeze this engine in I had to modify the harmonic balancer to skinny it up. I can send pictures if you like.
