Finally, after three years in the making, I fired my flatty for the first time yesterday. Startled the hell out of me when it roared to life and idled smooth and easy. When are you going to make a sound clip of that thing? I want to hear it with the straight pipes and the turn down dumps, sans mufflers...
Fix the oil pan yet?

Pete; I will see if I can borrow the camera from work that has sound capabilities and send you an ear full of pure horse power. I dropped the oil pan off at the machine shop yesterday for what I hope is the final modification. I think the oil pan modifications have taken longer than any other phase of my project. Nice engines ya got there.Sure glad to see someone fixing older engines and not a SB something or other.I have had old mopars with flatheads that seem to run forever as long as you kept oil in them and had a electric fuelpump so they didn't vaporlock in the summertime.Wish i had bought that set of Fenton headers at the local wrecking yard back in the late 1960s for the small Mopar L-heads. I have always liked inline engines.Chevy 235/261s,Mopar flat and slant sixes,GMCs,Hudson and Ford 215/223/262/240/300 sixes.For you who are building 251 and 265 Mopar sixes is some information that might be helpful to you.They come with both cast and forged steel cranks.Most of you already know that.They also come with cast and steel camshafts.Engines used in alot of heavy machinery came with gear driven camshafts,instead of sprockets and a chain.Some in larger trucks came with factory dual carbs.In the real big trucks they had engines with 370 and 413 cubic inches with factory dual carbs and factory dual exhaust.They were also flatheads.I have a friend with a 1947 5 ton Dodge with the 413 engine,5 spd.trans,2 speed rearend and a 2spd.Brownie box.The truck is 13,000 pounds empty.Big as any Diesel rig and rolls down the freeway with them with no problem.He has owned in since 1969.They also built a Sherman Tank during WWII that had five Chrysler six engines in it,for a total of 30 cylinders.Now turn off the light and go to sleep.

The engine I have is a big block 251 CI from a Desoto. Here is a Dodge truck with the dual setup. This truck belongs to George Asche a friend on mine in Pennsylvania. {img]http://img22.photobucket.com/albums/v65/DonCoatney/Don%20Coatney/GA4.jpg[/img] George Asche has this big block 265 CI engine in his 1929 Desoro.  Here is a shot of the other side. Note the dual charging system for both 6 and 12 volts.  And here are a couple of shots of the 30 cylinder tank engine based on the flat 6 design. Did you make all of the blue anodized throttle link pieces or purchase any pieces? Looks like you might have milled the bearing retainers??? Looks really nice!

No, I purchased all of the bellcranks and bearing housings from Kinsler Fuel Injection; they have quite a collection of stuff there! Kinsler web page The black piece they are mounted to started out as an aluminum extrusion that was part of a carpenter's bubble level that was cut down, drilled and tapped, then powdercoated. Marty

Great looking engine, looking forward to a road report.
Did you say "New" Edmunds intake? Is somebody reproducting the mopar Edmunds, or is it just "new" to you?
