Musing over what could be done, my nephew has posed the question "What is the most power and the highest (reliable) revs that can be had out of a Chrysler slant 6?"

He's talking about such an engine fitted with carburettors, probably 3 x 45DCOE Webers, no superchargers or turbochargers and no nitrous oxide.

my experience is on the other end. "just how worn out will a slant six still move under its own power?"

i found that out back in 1980-1981 with a 70 dart.

There is a lot of potential in the slant six cylinder head. I don't hear of many problems with the stock bottom end. If you want to know more, search the slant six boards www.slantsix.com and www.slantsix.org

They seem to be in awe of Cameron Tilley there, don't they?

I think I'd rather a sensible bit of discussion in this forum than be lost among the kid's messages on those ones.

Who is Cameron T? There are several people over at slantsix.org and com who run slant six cars under 13 second qtr mile. One has a goal to get into the 11s soon.

Most of the slant six race cars were not expensive to build, often not trailer'd. I am not a racer, my slant sixes are basically stock. I think most of those who go fastest with slant sixes are over age 30. I would like to see more young people interested in these motors. I do not see a lot of slant six content at Inliners. ORG is more technical, COM is more of a hangout.

Cameron and Brad Tilley are brothers who race Mopar equipment in Australia. I found one thread on one of those sites that is simply about a video of Cameron taking a slow 12+ second run in his VC (Australian model) Valiant... a car which is apparently well known in the US and is apparently considered by many to be the fastest road going slant six to run on the strips.

Brad races in road racing, which is much more my scene. He has a V8 Barracuda and has had Valiants with /6s. He also races in the modern day stuff with one of the typical 'V8 Supercar' types of things.

I hang at slantsix .com and .org, they are both good sites. We have people with stock slants, all the way to full boogie race cars. All are welcome and there are several members from "down under" and other countries. The reason for all the "chatter" about Camron Tilly, recently, was one of the members from North Carolina, went to Australia for a visit. Then Camron came to the states for a visit.

Thanks, Charlie... those Tilley boys sure love their Mopars and they sure love racing.

We're having a bit of interchange with them as my nephew's '64 Dodge road racing project comes together, but not much. Their road racing Barracuda runs a different engine, gearbox and so on, and it's a lot lighter.

But I expect that the fact that we'll be about the only ones running Mopar V8s on the circuits here will mean there'll be some cameraderie between us.

I think I remember reading a post somewhere, that Camron Tilley's car dynoed at over 400 rear wheel horsepower. To me, his biggest accomplishment, is that the car is a daily driver, and has not had any internal engine work done on it in a couple pf years. It is easy to make HP. It is a lot more difficult to do it relieably. I could make over 500 HP from a slant. But I don't think the engine would last for a complete 1/4 mile.
