Hi Everybody,
I'm working on another 265 and I have an Isky Cam that I want to put in it but the oil pump gear teeth are ground backwards compared to a stock cam. After doing some research I found out that the Marine engines used cam gears instead of a timing chain. The gears turn the camshaft backwards but I have not been able to find a reverse oil pump gear to compensate for the backwards turning camshaft. Any advice is welcome! I'm looking for a complete set of cam gears and oil pump shaft gear.

We have a 1950 Wagnermobile Scooploader at work that uses the bigger Chrysler/Desoto engine,It also has the gear drive setup you are talking about.I have swapped the engine twice in the last 24 years.I put in car engines and had to replace the chain and sprocket setup and reuse the geardrive setup from the original scooploader engine.The geardrive cam is steel and the chaindrive cam is cast.I had to reuse the original cam because it also drives a hydraulic pump.I would try EGGE Machine engine parts company to try and locate some parts.My good friend has a 1947 5 ton Dodge car hauler that has a 1957 Dodge 413 cubic inch flathead six.That one is real fun to get parts for.

My friend has several of the 370 and 413 flathead engines.He has a fleet of 1940 to 1947 Dodge trucks.Some of the trucks he has owned and drivin since the late 1950s.His trucks range from 1/2 tons up to 5 tons.He has 2 Dodge fire trucks in his collection and a few early Plymouth trucks.His trucks use the 217/230---251/265---370/413 engines depending on the size of the truck.He recently bought a 1957 Dodge dump truck.2 of the biggest engines were ex military with dual carbs and dual exhaust with water proof electrial systems.He also has a factory 2 barrel carb.setup from a 1957 Dodge Westener passenger car.All his trucks are still 6 volt.He also has several powerwagons.He has had a wrecking yard in Northern California for over 50 years.Most of the old Dodge stuff he keeps for himself.He only does old cars and trucks.Besides common stuff,he has a 1950 Reo Speedwagon,a mid 1930s Mack truck,bulldozers,tractors,windmills,hit and miss engines,a crawler? with a chrysler straight 8 flathead and much more.

I asked my friends at the FL forum and they don't seem to recall such a model.

Do tell Doc . . . I am with Ray . . . never heard of one . . .

'Westerner' sounds more like a Motorhome/RV then a car . . .

And what would a 'Southerner' be?

I saw the inforation in a wrecking yard interchange manual.It was NOT the Hollander book.I do see in the Hollander manual does list a high comp head with 8.2 to 1 compression part#1821845 for 1957 thru 1959 Dodge and Plymouth engines.Also it lists a 2 barrel intake for 1955 thru 1958 Dodge engines and 1956 Plymouth engines.The info on the Dodge Westener may have been in the Superior interchange manual that I no longer own.I have been employed in the auto wrecking trade for over 30 years and some of this info is stored wayback in my head somewhere.

Hmmm... somebody dug this up...

That looks like friends big engines with the dual in/ex setup.On his car hauler he runs a single carb and single exhaust most likely off the 370 engine.When he got his big engines,he was told they were out of some type of military vehicle.The big engines had automatic transmissions on them that he removed and got rid of.The 5 ton has a 5 speed trans,2 speed rearend and 3 speed aux trans.He has owned it since 1970 and is used every week.If I remember correctly,cast on the left side of the block are the words NICKEL CROME MOLYBDENUM STEEL.

Is that Dodge in the land down under? My friend Brian's love for those trucks boarders on madness.He his been drving 39 thru 47 Dodges since he was about 15 and he is 63 now.

I think it is... I'll check with Tony, he's in Western Australia, he's the one who posted the pics.

But to be honest, now I look, I don't think the plate looks very Australian.

That license plate appears to be Wisconsin, 1965. If the artifact is still sitting where the photographer found it, then we can assume it's been sitting for forty years in the buckle on the rust belt.

For some reason that grill looks alot flatter than normal for a small Dodge truck.That grill in the picture looks like the grill on his 5 ton car hauler which is flat.
