Hello to all mopar flathead owners, I have a 1937 Plymouth 4 dr. I have made the choice to keep the flathead. I am a in love with the motor! However,I will be upgrading to the 230 along with a powerflite from a donor car. Hope to hear from you guys.Right back to reading more posts, they give great insight

Hello, welcome aboard.
I have a '38 Plymouth P6 coupe with a Dodge 230. It has good power and a lot of low end torque.
I have a three speed on the floor and a 3:90 rear end. It's great around town but not for the freeway as it is geared too low.I drive almost everyday.

"Overdrive!" Can't you hear the cry... "overdrive!"?

There must still be some from the thirties and forties around. Though not to go with the Powerflite.

For me, I have adjusted to my '38 as a town cruiser. An overdrive won't fit through the x-frame tunnel of a '38 or a '37 without cutting and modifying the frame. That may be the case to install a powerflight also...too big. The original three on the floor is a small tranny.
I really am satisfied driving around town and cruising the coutry roads around here. the other option is to have a T-5 or a higher rear end if it's important to do freeway driving.
