The engine I have in my truck now seems to have burned a valve. Someone mentioned that the 292 head is taller and therefore the pushrods would need to be taller but 292 pushrods would be too long in the 250 block. I am wondering if this would reduce the amount of play I have to adjust the rockers on it? I adjusted them once, and the engine smoothed right out, but now I am at zero lash and the rockers clatter if I try to lift them off the head any more. I'd like to get it running good again before I pull this step child.

292 block is taller, not the head.
Check rocker studs are not pulling out of head.
Cam going flat, check that the lifter is actually moving up and down enough with cam turning.
Hydraulic lifters not pumping up.

Make your own decision,

Just my Thoughts,

Thanks Walt, that's good to know about the height! I will check into the stuff you mentioned before I yank the engine!

FYI I sold this engine to an inliners member and he let me know that the guy who rebuilt the engine did not install hardened seats in the exhaust valves so they sunk into the head on it.
