Inliners International Forums General Discussion Engines 4.2 Torque Converter Stall Speed

I rented a Trailblazer on a recent business trip. It was my 1st time to drive something with the 4.2 in it. It seemed like the torque converter was a little loose, the truck didn't creep at all at idle. So for grins I did a stall test. It stalled at 2300 RPM.
Isn't this a little high for a stock system? Is this normal for the 4.2? Does it have poor low end torque? Or does Avis have a Trailblazer that's due for some work?

Did it burn some rubber when you let off the brake?
Seems a bit high, but I really don't know what they are supposed to stall @.

iT IS A BIT ON THE HIGH SIDE, BUT fORD cOBRAJET 428S STALLED AT2500.

Most of the new stuff can vary the stall speed of the converter by controlling how much fluid the converter gets (through the computer). Some even have variable pitch stators (like the old switch pitch TH400's, but more than just 2 positions). Or so I hear. It could be a quirk of the computer, thinking you were stuck or something, trying to give you max torque.

How did it 'go' when you stood on it without the brakes on?
