The Miller engines are just awesome and look like jewelry. That design later became the famous Drake Offy engines that ran into the early 80's. Drake Offy also worked on a GMC 12 port design for Indy when it was abandon and sold off to a sprint car racer. They also did a front cover to move the distributor to the front to get rid of the spark scatter at high RPM. They also modified some stock heads for sprint cars along with making a side cover and valve cover for the GMC.

But the original 4 cylinder made some HP!!! I was talking to Dan Gurney and he mentioned that in the 70's they had a turbo Offy Indy motor on the dyno when the throttle stuck. So they started to put a load on it to stop it, when the smoke cleared the gauge read 1200 HP!

Just by way of an FYI:

Offy built a couple of inline sixes some time around 1938. Basically the same design as the inline four but with the two additional cylinders. If these still exist, perhaps they're in some collection or maybe hiding under a tarp in the back of someone's shop. Would I like to make that "barn find"!

The six cylinder engines derived from the four cylinder engines that Offy built are accounted for and are in existence. One is in the Blue Crown Special that is owned by Dom McReynolds of AZ (its for sale) http://fabulousracers.com/bluecrown.html and the other is owned by my friend Chet Knox of So Cal and is in the Justice brothers museum. About five years ago he wanted 25k for it, but like everything ells is probably gone up considerably.

What is even rarer is the stock 302 GMC head and the 12 port head that Offy worked on.

$um Fun:

Thanks for the update on the Offy inline sixes. I'm glad to hear both engines are accounted for and in good hands. There's been far too many interesting and important inline items that have just gone missing, never to be seen again.
