I am having a hard time posting and searching, so I was wondering if there is a good site for a rebuild kit.

Also, out of curiosity, does the mercruiser stuff work just as well as the regular 250 stuff?

neo,
i would suggest getting normal engine rebuild parts (ie: cam, bearing, rings, pistons) from you local machine shop. profits are ussually slim and if the is a problem during assy, you have a easier recourse.
you can certainly pick which parts you want to use and get them thru the shop.
the merc stuff will work great. the cam is alittle different grind than a street cam. go to summit racing and lookup parts there. use them as a reference to look up stuff and make a list. give it to the machine shop.
on ebay look up 307 chevy V8 forged pistons to see what comes up. you will need a stronger piston than a cast one. even a hyperuetectic would be good. tom

While you are on the mercruisers if you find a 165 mercruiser they have aluminum valve cover and i'm pretty sure the oil pan is alum. too

307 flat tops are a bolt in. they will raise your compression slightly. tom

Places like Oreilly Auto and Auto Zone have standard rebuild kits. They may not have them IN STOCK at the store but can usually get them in less than a week.
If you want to spend more money or get fancy there are other sources.

I guess I'm looking for a standard rebuild, with forged internals or the hypereutic stuff. Are all 307 pistons forged?

New 307 forged pistons are going to be spendy,,,unless you find an NOS TRW's that somebody has lying around.

Hypereutic (SP) are cast pistons.
I believe 307 pistons will give you a full point of compression over a standard 250 piston which is a good amount.

Custom forged 250 pistons are approx $600,ask Mike if you want some nice forged units.
