With the amount of fuel injection info being passed around, it may be a good idea to have a new forum for the topic so the info is stored in one spot.

Comments?

Yes, that would be a good idea. Lots of interest in it now, especially with the work that is being done on the new 4.2 engine

I agree with Marc! Having a central spot to discuss an Issue would make future searches easier. We are amassing a lot os EFI stuff. I spent hours yesterday searching for and Gathering info scattered all over on rod specs. I guess the other thing would be for us to use a forum and to post our topics so the can be found in searches. I see that now!

I think that's a really good idea too. Have you talked to Tim about adding a FI forum to the bulletin boards?

We are in the process of changing over to EFI on the 1950 Buick salt flat car.

It would be handy as long as it doesn't add cost and didn't swamp the people we already have helping.

I did a while back - said He'd think about it.. I'd moderate if no one else wanted to.

The only thing that I worry about is, as we keep adding forums there should be a way to have members pay attention and keep their posts under the proper subject. This may not seem like a problem to most, but the more forums there are the more the subject can get scattered. and the search issue would only get worse.

Another way to look at it is, for instance, most of the EFI is on the new engines, which may be turbocharged, but most of the turbos seem to be on the 250 series which may be fuel injected or carburated, and more members are getting interested in fuel injection for their early Chev or GMC engines but they are usually not supercharged.

Or am I just making too big a deal about it?

Organization is the key as you mentioned! Its much easier to search through one section even if its lengthy, than through 2 or 3 with tidbits scattered in all of them.

How about just changing the name of the 'Forced Induction' forum to something like 'Blown/Injected' and use it for the high tech stuff. Ideas??

Tim why not put like this Blown/Forced/Injected.That should pretty much cover it all.

As I spend more time searching than posting, I know that's hard to believe, I see Titen's point. We need to get our posts in the right forum, give them titles that aid in later searches, and try not to change the topics that someone began. Oops sorry I'll try to be better!

Not sure if my question should be a new thread? On behalf of a friend, fellow NNVI Inliner working with a stock computer, Vortec 4.2 in a 70's pickup trying to connect a tach. Any advice on aftermarket tach or junk yard tachs that would work with the tach output on stock computer? Hope I have worded this correctly? Understand that the signal from the computer requires some "translation". Hope someone's. "...been their done that" ?

Belong to another forum that simply calls them Power Adders? Just about covers it? Will try and remember where that obscure forum about 6 cyl.'s is.

I seem to recall seeing someone that has, OHC Firebird maybe? I can't find it in the search. \:\(

Marc would normally be the expert here, but IIRC he satrted out with his on Megasquirt, so not sure if he has 'been there, done that' as you say or not.

If the topics get too broad then it gets cluttered and harder to find information.

Tim - time to move on this... more topics are coming up on efi -- need a common resting place.

I probably can't make everyone happy, but, what are your opinions of the name and description change for forced induction and fuel injection?

Tim

Could you change the topic intro from "The focus will be on mechanical details to consider for installation on our Inline engines for improved performance"

to

"The focus will be on electrical and mechanical details to consider for installation on our Inline engines for improved performance"

Also is there a provision with this version of BBS s/w to allow folks to post efi tune up files they are tyically small file less that 80K.
If their setup is close to the tune up file posted it will take away a LOT of the head scratching.

Marc,

I changed the intro wording, what is the format of the tuneup files?

Tim,

two files types... file extensions for megasquirt tune up files are:

.msq
&
.vex

.msq is the complete setup including tuneup

&

.vex is for raw spark and fuel tables.

Maybe Tom L. will chime in with the holley files.

Tim,

Can you make the "upload file" button visible.

Marc,

OK, let's give this a try. I have attachments allowed in 'Blown & Injected' only at this time. To see the 'file manager' option, it has to be a 'new post' or you must be on the 'full reply screen' and you must enter some text on the screen (you cannot just reply with an attachment without causing an error). I expect some initial problems but if this works out I may try allowing attachments to the rest of the BB, keep the files as small as possible. I may have to prune some older topics that are just chatter if server space starts getting too full.

Tim
