Inliners International Forums General Discussion Drive Train 302 GMC conversion in a 53 chevy car

I am in the process of installing a GMC 302 and a T-5 trans in my 53 Chevy 210.

Engine and trans are mounted and now I am ready to replace the torque tube setup. I have a 56 Chevy rear end with 3:36 gears I am going to use. What do I do for rear leaf springs? I don't want to use the old worn skinny original springs and with the torque tube mounting setup this would move the rear wheels too far forward.

Will leaf springs froma a tri-five chevy work? Any other suggestions?

Buffalo makes a well engineered rear spring kit that not only replaces the old springs and centers the rear end in the wheelwells, but moves them inboard a little for improved clearance. Check him out in our 12 Port Advertisers link on the home page

I did check with Buffalo Enterprises but he only sells springs that lower the rear end of the car.

I would like to keep the car at near the stock ride height.

I have a 40 Chevy with a GMC 302/T5/Ford 9"(4:11)setup and use the old springs with modifications. Added one long leaf for more stiffness and made a lowerig block that also centers the axel in the wheel-well. The springs work fine. I also add traction bars when drag racing to stop wheel hopping.
